Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A person who laced sweets with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two young males both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a young boy.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "This year his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his worries.

She explained Ruben continued to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the police once more.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
